Raising Your Child in a Digital World
Wednesday 1st November, 2017
Dr Kristy Goodwin, a digital parenting educator, researcher and author (& mum who also deals with her kids’ techno-tantrums), translates the latest research about how technology is shaping childhood. Dr Kristy helps confused and concerned parents make informed decisions about how to best manage screen-time at home (so that it doesn’t always end in scream time)… and no she won’t suggest that you ban the iPad, or unplug the TV! Parents will understand the latest risks to kids’ online safety, as well as the health, learning and development implications of young kids (5-12 years) using digital devices.
Parents will learn:
// How much screen-time is healthy (so you can ditch your techno-guilt for good). Dr Kristy will share a simple (realistic) formula for calculating healthy limits.
// Current digital dilemmas facing parents today- kids' access to pornography, scary and/or violent content, social media risks and the latest cyber-safety issues. Kristy will arm parents with a range of simple strategies to minimise these risks.
// How technology can impact kids’ health, learning and well-being if they're not carefully managed. Learn how digital devices are impacting young children's sleep, social, language, play, physical skills and their vision, hearing and posture. Parents will be armed with practical strategies to use technology in healthy and helpful ways at home (because Kristy won't suggest that you ban the iPad, or unplug the TV... digital amputation isn’t the solution).
